Das Sandmännchen zum ersten Mal auf der großen Leinwand, auf neuen Briefmarken und in Buchform, außerdem als Musical, in Ausstellungen und bei Festen unterwegs, im Fernsehen in neuen Sandmannabenteuern und als Held einer „Langen Nacht“: Ein großes Programm für einen kleinen Mann, der am 22. November 50 Jahre alt wird.
„Der Sandmann und der verlorene Traumsand“ (Arbeitstitel) heißt die Geschichte: „Das Traumland ist in Gefahr. Der Traumsand ist gestohlen und der Sandmann holt den kleinen Jungen Miko zu Hilfe, den Traumsand zurück zu gewinnen“, so Produzent Jan Bonath. Trickreich wird dieser Plot ab April an diversen Sets in der Caligari-Halle des FILMPARK Babelsberg gedreht. Wie u. a. „Wallace und Gromit“ und „Hennen Rennen“ wird auch der Sandmann-Kinofilm mit Hilfe der Stop-Trick-Animation hergestellt. Dabei werden real gebaute Puppen in phantasievoll aufgebauten Miniatursets Bild für Bild bewegt.
Bereits am 12. März erscheint das Buch „Das Sandmännchen – Alles über unseren Fernsehstar“ von Volker Petzold. Mitgeschrieben hat auch rbb-Redakteurin Anne Knabe, die die Sandmann-Sendung seit vielen Jahren betreut.
Der rbb bringt im Herbst neu produzierte Sandmann-Animationsgeschichten und Trickfilmreihen ins Programm. Diesmal ist das Sandmännchen im Schwarzwald unterwegs und steuert einen Harvester und eine Schneefräse. Zum runden Geburtstag der Kinderfigur sind weitere Sendungen in Vorbereitung, darunter im November eine neue „Lange Sandmann-Nacht“.
