Elterngeld schafft Wahlfreiheit
Für die meisten Eltern stabilisiert oder erhöht das Elterngeld das Haushaltseinkommen. Jungen Müttern ersetzt es zusammen mit dem Kindergeld im Durchschnitt 86 Prozent des Einkommens, das sie vor der Geburt ihres Kindes hatten. Damit ermöglicht das Elterngeld jungen Familien eine flexible Lebensplanung - ganz nach den Bedürfnissen der Eltern und des Kindes.
Väter nutzen die neuen Möglichkeiten
So ist der Anteil der Väter, der sich - unterstützt durch das Elterngeld - an der Betreuung des Neugeborenen beteiligt, kontinuierlich gestiegen. Vor der Einführung des Elterngeldes hatten lediglich 3,5 Prozent der Väter Elternzeit genommen. Die jetzt vorliegende Evaluation hat mit dem 1. Mittlerweile halten 80 Prozent der Führungskräfte das Elterngeld für "eine gute Regelung" und etwa zwei Drittel sehen eine Reduzierung oder Unterbrechung der Berufstätigkeit von Vätern als "gar nicht problematisch".
Geburtenzahlen in Deutschland steigen
Die verbesserten Möglichkeiten für junge Familien schaffen ein positives Klima, so dass sich immer mehr Paare für Kinder entscheiden. Im vergangenen Jahr haben die Geburtszahlen das erste Mal seit zehn Jahren wieder zugenommen: 2007 wurden 12.000 Kinder mehr geboren als 2006. Dieser Trend hat sich 2008 sogar noch verstärkt. Vor allem Frauen zwischen 33 und 37 Jahren bekommen mehr Kinder. Dies deutet darauf hin, dass sich die Perspektiven für diese Frauen, die schon mitten im Berufsleben stehen, verbessern. 48 Prozent der Kinderlosen geben an, dass das Elterngeld auf die Entscheidung für Kinder etwas Einfluss hat; 18 Prozent sehen einen "großen Einfluss".
