Ein Drittel mehr Radverkehr bis 2012 - das ist erklärtes Ziel der Landeshauptstadt. Nach ausgiebigen Anstrengungen der Stadtverwaltung Potsdam in den letzten Monaten soll nicht nur der Anteil der Radfahrer in Potsdam wachsen – Potsdam soll zur Fahrradhauptstadt Brandenburgs werden.
Obwohl sich Potsdam mit seinen täglich fast 80.000 Fahrradfahrten im bundesweiten Vergleich auf den vorderen Plätzen tummelt, soll dies erst der Anfang einer neuen Initative sein. „Wir wollen, dass der Radverkehrsanteil Schritt für Schritt auf den niederländischen Landesdurchschnitt von 27 Prozent anwächst“, sagte Andreas Goetzmann, Fachbereichsleiter Stadtplanung und Bauordnung in der Stadtverwaltung, anlässlich der öffentlichen Vorstellung der Planungen. „Damit wäre Potsdam die ‚Fahrradhauptstadt’ Brandenburgs und somit ein echtes Aushängeschild auch für das Land bei dessen Vorhaben der Radverkehrsförderung“.
Nach der Studie 'Mobilität in Städten - SrV' aus dem Jahre 2003 hatte Potsdam bereits einen ‚Fahrradanteil’ von 20 Prozent. Im Vergleich: Gesamtdeutschland hatte lediglich 9 Prozent.
Die geplante Steigerung entspricht rund einem Drittel mehr Radverkehr. Insgesamt sind 400 Aktionen geplant, die das Stadtparlamten im Mai verabschieden soll. Ziele sind nicht nur die Verbesserung der Infrastruktur, der Wegweiser und Abstellanlagen für Fahrradfahrer sondern vor allem die Gewährleistung von sicheren Wegen – gerade für junge Verkehrsteilnehmer sowie Tempo 30-Zonen, in denen Rad und Verkehrsstraßen nicht voneinander getrennt sind.
Dank der Unterstützung des Jugendamtes und des Kinder- und Jugendbüros wurden die Ergebnisse einer Befragung von rund 2.400 Kindern und Jugendlichen in das umfangreiche Konzept einbezogen. „Mit der Radverkehrsstrategie und dem Radverkehrskonzept haben wir eine sehr gute Grundlage, um das Ziel der Verbesserung der Angebote für die Radfahrerinnen und Radfahrer in Potsdam zu erreichen“, erklärt Andreas Goetzmann weiter.
Insgesamt sind bei vollständiger Realisierung des Radkonzeotes rund 326 km Fahrradrouten vorhanden. Davon sollen zunächst etwa 90 km im Kerngebiet der Stadt mit höchster Priorität hergestellt werden.
Die Schaffung dieser ‚fahrradfreundlichen Umgebung’ wird der Stadt Investitionen von rund 6,2 Mio. Euro kosten. Diese Summe soll über einen längeren Zeitraum zur Verfügung gestellt werden. Mittelfristiges Ziel ist es, ein jährliches Budget für den Radverkehr von 750.000 Euro zu erreichen. Noch ist allerdings offen wie diese Mittel genau aufgebracht werden können.
Goetzmann dazu: „Uns ist klar, dass die Bereitstellung ausreichender finanzieller Mittel für den Radverkehr selbst ein ehrgeiziges Ziel ist und die Realisierung der Maßnahmen ein längerer Prozess sein wird. Wir hoffen aber, dass uns das Land auch weiterhin aktiv bei dieser wichtigen Aufgabe unterstützt.“
